I can't say much here. I happen to really like Rock Plaza Central but I will say that there's a story behind the long title. At one point Chris said that they hadn't finalized the title but were leaning toward
...At the Moment of our Most Needing, or, If Only They Could Turn Around, They Would Know They Weren't Alone, I (and apparently others) took this as a Dr. Strangelove type title, not knowing that the OR was one or the other. RPC, were amused by this and fans of Dr. Strangelove so they ran with it, printing two covers for the album (you get to pick which you like the best). With one cover that says ...At the Moment of our Most Needing and another that reads If Only They Could Turn Around, They Would Know They Weren't Alone, So it's really one album with two titles and you can pick your favorite.
"Vaccination Scar" (2004) is an amazing Hip song! Also reallly liked "In View" from Wold Container.
I disagree with your Attack in Black review. I think it is their finest effort yet, offering a wide range of well written, melodic and catchy songs. I think it is a beautifully warm album.
My take on "Messenger Bird" is quite different than yours. It reminds me of Lennon's "Dear Prudence," from the White Album, arguably the first commercially successful lofi album. Like "Dear Prudence, ""Messenger Bird"is a well-written, lofi ballad, filled with tape hiss and haunting, heartfelt harmonies. Plus, who can deny the brilliant duet of Dan Romano and Julie Doiron on "I am Rock"? I recommend picking the album up on vinyl and listening to it, again.
I think it's one of those records you either really love for the fact they went all lo-fi, or really dislike for the reasons I gave...
