This EP is just the beginning, when Samson is finished with this project, I'd imagine there will be a full record's worth of songs about the streets of Winnipeg (aren't they all though). I wouldn't be surprised if all the EPs are released as a "proper album", but I'm just speculating. Samson has never been that prolific, after all there were four years between "Reconstruction Site" and "Reunion Tour" and that album was really only EP length at best.
I feel like Reconstruction Site and Reunion Tour are both amazing albums, but listening to both of them, I get the impression that Reconstruction Site was a transition to more complex sound and song structure that, while groundbreaking, they didn't fully achieve until Reunion Tour.
If I had to choose their weakest (heh) album, it would probably have to be Left and Leaving (*ducks*). I absolutely love that album and Fallow (The Weakerthans are probably single-handedly responsible for pulling me out of my I-only-listen-to-punk-rock youth), but I just don't find myself pulling them out quite as much as the latest two.
!!!
That does deserve ducking...as I said, for me Left and Leaving was one of the best albums of the decade, and for awhile probably may have been my favourite album ever. There are definitely parts of it I'm less enamoured with now, but on the whole I think it stands up pretty well. Now, Reunion Tour...that one just doesn't do as much for me. There are one or two songs I love, but on the whole it just makes me feel kind of blah... |
