got the Various Chimeras CD and it's anything but generic dance music. like the song is Dirty Liar -- it's got beats, a rap, electro stuff and--wait for it--a banjo. another song has japanese, dancehall, electro and a Miss Kittin kinda vocal, with a bit of algerian somethin' thrown in. and five or six songs are chillout, not 'dance' at all. i guess you get too many cds to bother listening to all the songs?
oh and by the way i've heard a few tracks on the CBC, and the BBC (via the net) so I guess someone has stumbled across them.
If they're getting played on both the CBC and the BBC, then I guess that's cool...I still don't think there's anything particularly interesting about them, but you're right, in that I didn't listen to the album nearly enough for them to make an impression. I'll give it another listen, if you say that it sounds better than I thought it did...
Those Austin James Band fellas sure are wack wack wacky. If I had one word to describe them... well, it would be wacky. Just Plain Wacky. They're cute when their little though.
I wouldn't say they're wacky... yeah they're different from anything else going on, but not wacky. They seem to be having a great time making amazingly thoughtful music and want us to join in the fun. They are true entertainers, not the typical rockstars that are crowding the music scene. They are definitely serious about what they are doing and I hope they don't "tone" anything down, for if they do, they will only be giving in to the creativity-restricting who-haws that control what we listen to. AJB, keep playing musical jokes to our ears!!! (even louder and more often please)
